shoot 1. (verb) To set off explosives in a well to stimulate the formation (improve its permeability and water production). This is typically achieved by lowering long cylinders ("cans") of plastic nitroglycerine for ignition.
2. (verb) To cut off a drill pipe or tubing string with specially placed explosives.
3. (verb) To perforate a casing or tubing string with the use of shaped explosive charges. See jet perforation
