for week of February 13, 2006:

Mills knife (noun) A tool used to cut perforations in well casing after the casing is in the ground. The Mills knife is lowered into the well to the specified depth, and holes are cut in the casing using a "can-opener" motion. Mills knife holes are commonly very large (often on the order of about 1/2" x 3") in high production wells.
