for week of May 8, 2006:

Jets (noun) Tungsten carbide inserts that are put in the openings between drill bit cones, through which the drilling fluid flows. Jets are used to increase the velocity of drilling mud as it exits the bit during direct mud rotary drilling operations, in order to improve the hydraulic energy at the bit face, to advance the borehole and remove the cuttings. Also termed bit jets.
