Hard face 1. noun. Tungsten carbide inserts or welded seams that are located on certain surfaces, such as the side of drill bits and stabilizers, to prevent wear and erosion of those surfaces during their use. 2. verb. To apply welded seams to a steel surface, in order to create a hard surface that will resist wear and erosion.
