for week of February 6, 2006: Caging test
1.(noun) A well plumbness test that involves lowering a "cage" on a wireline to different depths in a well, and measuring the deflection of the wireline cable from a central point. The "cage" has multiple centralizing straps that give it the appearance of a bird cage, thus the name. The test is conducted by expanding the centering straps on the cage to closely fit within the inside diameter of the well. The cage wireline is centered within the well casing at the land surface, and its deflection to the North or East away from the central point is measured with two carpenter squares as the cage is lowered to various depths in the well. Also termed straight hole test.
2. (noun) The written or graphical result of the caging test analysis. Back to this week's word
