Senior Geologist
bmurphy@clearcreekassociates.com

Barbara Murphy is a senior geologist with Clear Creek Associates, providing environmental geology and water resources evaluations for environmental and geotechnical projects. Barbara joined Clear Creek Associates in November 1999 with 23 years of prior geologic and environmental project experience at Dames & Moore and the US Bureau of Land Management. She provides technical information, task and project management, and applies a broad range of experience with geologic/hydrogeologic conditions and environmental issues including an in depth knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations. She has worked on a broad variety of projects requiring an understanding of NEPA, CERCLA, and RCRA, as well as other Federal, state, and local rules and regulations. Many of these projects required coordination with and/or were under the review of various Federal and state agencies. Barbara’s on-going and recently-completed projects at Clear Creek Associates include the Motorola 52nd Street Superfund Site groundwater investigations and remedial investigations, 56th Street and Earll Drive WQARF site on-going groundwater investigations and remediation, several Resource Management Plan/Plan Amendments EISs for the BLM in Arizona and New Mexico, various Phase I investigations, and miscellaneous water resource and environmental projects.

Prior to joining Clear Creek Associates, Barbara worked for Dames & Moore from 1977 to 1999. At Dames & Moore, she provided environmental geology, mineral resources, soils, paleontology, and water resources evaluations for environmental and geotechnical projects. While at Clear Creek and Dames & Moore, she has worked on many projects throughout the western United States including: Remediation/Hazardous Waste Site Characterization and PRP investigation projects, Electrical Transmission Lines/Telecommunication projects, Water Resources/Flood Control/Dam Design projects, Resource Management Plans for the US Bureau of Land Management, Mining and Mineral Resource related projects, Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, Highway and Transportation projects, Oil/Gas Pipeline projects, Power Plant Siting Investigations, Siting and Design for Sanitary Landfills, and Military Facility projects. Many of these projects required coordination with various federal and state agencies. Most of these were interdisciplinary projects involving cultural resources, biological resources, public involvement, noise and air evaluations in addition to geological and hydrological studies. Many of these larger multidisciplinary projects also required a comprehensive understanding of the permitting requirements from the early investigatory or environmental feasibility study stages of the project through to completion or actual construction of the project. She worked on numerous environmental assessments (EAs) and environmental impact statements (EISs).

Barbara is also actively involved in professional organizations including the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG), the Arizona Hydrological Society (AHS), and the Arizona Geological Society (AGS). She served on the planning committee in 2006-2007 for the AHS sponsored International Symposium for Managed Aquifer Recharge (ISMAR6) held in Phoenix, Arizona in October 2007. Barbara serves on the Geologic Mapping Advisory Board to the Arizona Geological Survey, is a former commissioner of the Arizona Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (appointed by the Governor of the State of Arizona), and was invited by the Mayor of Glendale to serve on the Public Focus Group for the City of Glendale (AZ) General Plan 2025.

Barbara’s involvement with AIPG has been at the Arizona Section and national level. She has served as President and other offices for the Arizona Section and has served on the National Advisory Board and as Vice President, and serves on several national committees. In 2008, Barbara served as General Chairperson for the very successful joint AIPG 45th Annual Meeting/AHS Fall Symposium/3rd International Professional Geologic Conference held in Flagstaff, Arizona in September. Barbara received AIPGs Presidential Award in 1997 and the Award of Honorary Membership in 2008 for service to AIPG and the geologic profession. In 2010, Barbara Murphy was honored to be nominated as a candidate for election for the position of AIPGs National President-Elect.
